Rear Admiral M Khaled Iqbal was commissioned in June 1983 and was a graduate of the Italian Naval Academy. He assumed the duties of Vice-Chancellor, Bangladesh Maritime University on 01 February 2018 and Concluded on 31 January 2023.
He was a distinguished graduate of Defence Services Command and Staff College, Bangladesh and Defence Services Staff College, Wellington, India. He was also a proud alumnus of the National Defence College, Delhi, India in 2013.
Recipient of the Distinguished Service Medal (BSP), Rear Admiral Khaled had a blend of Command, Staff, and Instructional appointments in his career. He had commanded almost all types of warships of the Bangladesh Navy, including the flagship BNS Khalid Bin Walid. He was the BN Fleet Commander for more than 02 (two) years when he earned numerous accolades in the modernization of fleet tactics and other operational achievements. He was a Directing Staff in the Defence Services Command and Staff College for more than 03 (three) years and also held the prestigious post of Commandant, Bangladesh Naval Academy. It is mentionable that the Admiral served for world peace as a UN Military Observer in Ivory Coast with a sizeable experience in the field of arms embargo inspection and enforcement of UN Resolutions. He was the Chairman of Chittagong Port Authority when he took numerous initiatives for port capacity building and port-led economic developments.
Rear Admiral Khaled held a Master's in Defence Studies from National University Bangladesh and an MPhil in Defence and Strategic Studies from the University of Madras. While a sea-going Commander by heart, the Admiral had a passion for research works, strategic, and military studies. He is blessed with two daughters.
