Bangladesh Maritime University Signs MoU with Walton for Joint Collaboration

Bangladesh Maritime University (BMU) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Walton to collaborate in several strategic sectors.

On 26 January 2026, a BMU delegation led by the Honourable Vice Chancellor Rear Admiral Dr. Khandakar Akhter Hossain, NBP, NUP, ndc, psc, PhD, visited Walton’s factory at Kaliakoir, Gazipur. The MoU was signed on behalf of BMU by Registrar Commodore Mohammad Ehsanullah Khan, (G), OSP, PCGM, ndu, psc, BN, and on behalf of Walton by Additional Managing Director Mohammad Yousuf Ali.

Also present at the signing ceremony were BMU Inspector of Academies Captain Md. Zahidul Islam, (L), psc, BN; Director of INTCE Commander A. F. M. Shiddiq Ullah, (E), psc, BN; and PS Coordinator to the VC Lieutenant Commander Md. Shamit Sharif, (E), BN.

Walton, founded in 1977, has grown into a major industrial conglomerate with over 35,000 employees and exports to more than 50 countries, including Japan and Germany, contributing significantly to employment generation and import substitution.

During the meeting, the Vice Chancellor emphasized the importance of prioritizing heavy industries, electric vehicles, solar systems, microchips, and IC technologies. He also stressed the need to reduce taxes on raw materials used for export-oriented products, protect agricultural land, and promote the use of locally produced goods in government offices.

He further highlighted the potential of special clay and rare sand discovered in Bangladesh’s deep sea and expressed hope for BMU students’ involvement in Walton’s future Blue Economy initiatives.
